On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of hosting Isabelle Crompton (Commissioner for Children and Young People). Isabelle read the book "I Have the Right to Be a Child", to a selected group of Year 3 – 6 students.
The reading was followed by a creative art activity led by Interweave Studios. This visit aligns beautifully with the 2025 Children’s Week theme: "Everyone should know about Children’s Rights." The artworks produced will be used for Children's Week events across Launceston.
Thank you City of Launceston for inviting us and supporting the coordination of this visit. What an amazing opportunity!

Family Planning Tasmania are visiting our school from Monday 15 September to Wednesday 24 September to provide The Growing Up Program – a relationships, sexuality and protective behaviours program.
The Growing Up Program (GUP) is Tasmania’s leading relationships, sexuality and protective behaviours’ program for students from Kindergarten through to Year 6.
It is facilitated by an experienced team of Family Planning Tasmania educators, and is age and developmentally appropriate, sequential, and evidence-based.
The program is aligned to the:
- Australian Curriculum
- Early Years Learning Framework
- Respectful Relationships and Consent Teaching and Learning Package
GUP reflects the latest in sexual and reproductive health research, and aims to maximise learning outcomes, and increase positive communication between parents and carers and their child/children.
Family Planning educators will encourage children to talk to their families and other trusted adults and consider their own family’s beliefs and values.
Family Planning Tasmania recommends that students be provided with relationships, sexuality and protective behaviours education each year.
By clicking on the below link, parents and carers will be able to access information to their child/children’s program. https://fpt.org.au/programs/parents-carers/the-growing-up-program-gup-parents-carers/
On Thursday 18 September, all Year 5 students will be visiting Newstead College. They will have an opportunity to tour the College and participate in some classes. Students and staff will leave school at 9:00 am and return at 12:20 pm. Your child will need to wear full school uniform, and bring a packed recess and a drink. This experience is an initiative of, and funded by, The Smith Family.

2025 School Satisfaction Survey
Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school improvement planning and decision-making.
If you have not had the opportunity to complete the survey about Mowbray Heights Primary School yet, it is open until Friday 19 September 2025 and should take about 5 minutes of your time.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Take the online survey by clicking this Link, or pasting it in your browser: https://nam.dcv.ms/J9SjAQl0Yw
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact us if you require any assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey. We have had 51 responses so far!

Mowbray's Got Talent Rehearsals
Some students have been practising their performances for Mowbray’s Got Talent during lunch times in the Library! Their dedication, teamwork and enjoyment has been delightful to watch. Good luck to all participants.

Library Team - Mrs Rafferty & Ms Eadie
Congratulations to Thomas, Taafeef, Adaora and Ishana for being selected to represent Mowbray Heights Primary School at the Northern Division of the Tasmanian Maths Relays on Sunday 21 September.
Along with other teams of students from around the state they will compete to solve 20 maths problems in 45 minutes.
The relays provide an opportunity for students to improve their mathematical thinking and work co-operatively in teams.
Go Mowbray!
On Friday 26 September, Year 1-2 classes will be watching the movie Ice Age (Rated G).
A mammoth joins a sloth and saber tooth tiger on a journey to reunite a boy with his father.
On Friday 26 September, students from Year 3-6 will be watching the movie, Finding Nemo (Rated G).
After his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home.
Safeguarding - Is this app safe for my child?
For many parents and carers, the clock is TikToking for when you might get asked by your child if they can go on social media or play games online.
These are tough calls for parents and carers, and especially those of our generation who don’t necessarily understand the increasingly important role digital environments play in the social lives and identity development of our children.
The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety.gov.au) website provides a range of advice to navigate this often-challenging area for families.
- Learn more about apps and games by viewing The eSafety Guide.
- Understand your child’s gaming experience by having conversations, watching or playing together.
- Talk with other parents and carers from school. This could be a good opportunity to learn more about how their children use an app or game and strategies to manage the technology.
Janaha Williams – Safeguarding Lead
All schools and colleges must develop and implement a sun protection policy. The Department for Education, Children and Young People recommends that all schools and colleges join the National School SunSmart Program to assist in the development of their policy. Over-exposure to UV (ultraviolet) rays causes sunburn, skin damage and increased risk of skin cancer. Inappropriate sun exposure in the first 18 years of life contributes significantly to the lifetime risk of developing skin cancer.
Schools play a significant role in reducing the lifetime risk of skin cancer. Our sun protection policy has been developed to ensure that all students, staff and the school community are protected from skin damage caused by harmful UV radiation from the sun.
Sun protection is required when UV levels are 3 and above. In Tasmania, the UV is 3 and above usually from September to April. Therefore, schools need to implement sun protection measures from the beginning of the school year until the end of April and again from the beginning of September until the end of the school year. Implementing sun protection measures throughout Terms 1 and 4 only is insufficient to protect against UV rays risks.
At MHPS we encourage the following combination of sun protection measures from September to April, when average peak UV levels in Tasmania reach 3 and above:
- Sun-safe clothing
- Sunscreen
- Sun-safe hats
- Shade
- Sunglasses
