Home Reading and Library Borrowing
Our Home Reading and Library borrowing has finished for the year. Please return any books that belong to our school as soon as you can. In the coming weeks we will be doing a stocktake on our collections, repairing damaged books and making sure our books are sorted and ready for use next year.
Many thanks to families who support our reading programs - your children are definitely benefiting from your guidance and encouragement.

We are very much looking forward to joining our Year 6 students at the Leavers' Dinner. This evening is a wonderful occasion, celebrating learning, friendships and all that makes their time at MHPS memorable.
When: Monday 9 December 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Venue: UTAS Stadium Function Centre, Invermay Road
5-6 Excursion to Riverside Pool
On Wednesday 11 December, students in Year 5 and 6 will be attending the Riverside Pool for our end of year fun day. We will be leaving school at 9:30 am and returning to school by 2:45 pm.
Students will need suitable swim wear, sun safe clothes for both in and out of the pool, school hat, two towels, lunch and drinks. The canteen at the pool will be open on this day for students to make purchases. We suggest a limit of $10.00.
Students will remain in the shade for the entire day if they do not bring a T-shirt or rashie to wear in the water, and if they do not apply and reapply sunscreen and wear a hat. We will have sunscreen available for students and staff, but ask that students who require specific sunscreen due to sensitive skin bring sunscreen with them.
We will be in the sun for most of the day and want to minimise the risk of sunburn and heat stroke.

Leavers Polo Tops are available for purchase at a cost of $40.00 each for Short Sleeve and $45.00 for Long Sleeve. If you would like your child to have this opportunity please complete the 2025 Year 6 Leavers Polo Top order form that has been sent home with Year 5 students. There will be one order placed for the year. The expected delivery date for polo tops is early Term One, 2025.
Please return the Order Form and payment to the School Office by Wednesday 11 December 2024.
Year 3 - 4 End of Year Picnic @ Heritage Forest
On Monday 16 December students from 3-4 Uffelmann, 3-4 Boon-Smith, 3-4 Marshall, 3-4 Sheedy and 3-4 Rafferty will be walking to Heritage Forest for a picnic to celebrate the end of the school year. We will leave school at 11:30 am and return by 2:45 pm. Students will need to wear full school uniform and bring a packed recess, a big drink (preferably two drinks!), lunch, a hat and sunscreen if they are unable to use school sunscreen. There will be sausages provided courtesy of our P&C.
Year 3-4 Teachers
On Wednesday 18 December, the Kindergarten classes will be celebrating a great year of learning with a Splash Day at school. The children will participate in a range of water based activities and sensory play which will be fun and messy! For this reason, we ask that the children bring along a towel and wear some play clothes to school. Please pack their school clothing to change into, as they are likely to get wet. A sausage in bread and an icy-pole will be provided for lunch, but you will still need to pack fruit, snacks and a drink of water.
Please ask us if you have any questions.
Bec, Natasha and Dannii
Prep - Year 2 End of Year Picnic @ Heritage Forest
On Wednesday 18 December, Prep to Year 2 children will be celebrating the end of a successful year. We will be leaving school at 9:30 am and walking in class groups to Heritage Forest. They will wear their school hat and sunscreen will be available. We will be participating in fun activities, and a sausage sizzle will be provided by the P&C at 12:00 pm. We will return to school at approximately 1:00 pm to enjoy icy poles, also provided by our wonderful P&C.

On Wednesday 18 December students from Years 3-6 will be watching the DVD, Shrek. The story is about a mean lord who exiles fairytale creatures to the swamp of a grumpy ogre. This ogre must then go on a quest and rescue a princess for the lord in order to get his land back. But the princess has a huge secret that could change everything.
Tired of being locked in a reptile house where humans gawk at them like they’re monsters, a group of Australia’s deadliest creatures plot a daring escape from the zoo to the outback.

Safeguarding - Tell Someone Campaign
Safeguarding Leads have been appointed in all state government schools to help ensure all children and young people in Tasmania are known, safe, well and learning. Our Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Janaha Williams.
Safeguarding Leads also have a responsibility to share information with students and families. All adults have a responsibility to help keep children and young people safe. Children and young people can also reach out for help themselves by calling the Kids Helpline or visiting the Tell Someone website.
The Tell Someone campaign has been relaunched.
A focus of the campaign is to raise awareness and knowledge about behaviour that may indicate that child sexual abuse or grooming is occurring.
The material on the Tell Someone website may bring up strong feelings and questions for many people. There are services and support groups available to assist you. Separate lists of supports for children and supports for adults have been provided.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to make contact.

Rethink Sugary Drinks
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been visiting classrooms to talk about oral hygiene and how we can keep our teeth healthy. Here are some simple tips to prevent cavities and tooth decay:
In the Grade 5/6 classes, we had a closer look at how much sugar is hidden in some popular drinks. Did you know some can contain as much as 25 teaspoons of sugar? Check out the poster below to see how different drinks stack up!
Let’s work together to promote healthy smiles for life!
Nurse Pia
Our school is fortunate to have two dedicated crossing guards. They play an important role in our community and work hard every day to keep students and families safe.
To help protect everyone, we’re sharing some requests around our school crossing area:
Do |
Don’t |
Always following the crossing guard’s instructions |
Ignore a crossing guard’s instructions |
Slow down, stay alert and be ready to stop safely when asked |
Block visibility near the crossing zone by parking too close |
Drive in a safe manner whenever you’re travelling through a school zone |
|
Thank you for helping to keep our school community safe. Let’s all do our part by respecting our crossing guard and the road rules. Together, we can create a safer journey to and from school!
