Earlier in the year I shared with families information in relation to communicating learning progress with families. We have been so thrilled with how invested our families are in supporting the learning of their child/children. 96% participation in our face-to-face or over the phone opportunities to discuss learning and wellbeing throughout the year, signals a strong willingness to partner with us in the interest of your child/children.
The final part of our communicating learning progress with families is the distribution of the Work Sample Portfolio for Kindergarten students and End of Year Report for students in Prep - Year 6.
- Kindergarten students will receive the Work Sample Portfolio on Wednesday 11 December
- Prep - Year 6 students will receive their End of Year Report on Friday 6 December
The Prep to Year 6 report will show your child’s learning achievement on a 9-point visual scale. The 9-point scale shows more specifically where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.
Some students will receive a report in relation to learning goals articulated on the student's Learning Plan. The report will include a learning plan goal continuum. The continuum will show your child’s progress towards achieving their learning plan goals.
In line with DECYP policy, there will be no teacher comments on the end of year report.

Thank you so much to the families who contributed towards the Obstac-a-thon fundraiser! Your generosity and support resulted in an amazing total of $4413.65! This is a new record amount. At the moment it is sitting in our bank account awaiting 2025 spending suggestions. We welcome ideas from families.

Pre-Kinder Early Start & Parent Workshops
From Tuesday 12 November to Friday 29 November, Pre-Kindergarten children are able to attend Early Start sessions without parents. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to practise separating from family and to develop some independence in the school setting.
There will be a Teacher and Teacher Assistants to supervise and support your child during this transition. The staff enjoy this valuable time to get to know your child and make stronger connections with them. We would expect that children attend on their regular Pre-Kindergarten day and time.
It is a legal requirement that parents remain at school while your child attends Early Start. During this time parents will have an opportunity to move to another location in the school grounds and have a tea or coffee with other parents and staff. I will share information with you about enrolment, uniforms and the Kindergarten Program. You will have about 10 minutes to settle your child into the program before each parent session begins.
Our LiL staff are happy to answer any questions.
New Date - Kindergarten Excursion to City Park
On Wednesday 4 December Kinder A, B and C will be going on an excursion to the City Park. The children will be involved in a range of wellbeing activities at the park including a play in the playground, music, visiting the sensory garden and conservatory and observing the ducks and monkeys.
The children will need to bring a packed morning tea, lunch and a drink bottle. There will be no lunch orders available on this day.
The bus will be departing school at 9:30 am and returning to school by 1:45 pm.
The children will need to wear school uniform and sunscreen.
Please talk to your child’s teacher if you have any questions. We are looking forward to a wonderful day in the park.

5-6 Excursion to Riverside Pool
On Wednesday 11 December, students in Year 5 and 6 will be attending the Riverside Pool for our end of year fun day. We will be leaving school at 9:30 am and returning to school by 2:45 pm.
Students will need suitable swim wear, sun safe clothes for both in and out of the pool, school hat, two towels, lunch and drinks. The canteen at the pool will be open on this day for students to make purchases. We suggest a limit of $10.00.
Students will remain in the shade for the entire day if they do not bring a T-shirt or rashie to wear in the water, and if they do not apply and reapply sunscreen and wear a hat. We will have sunscreen available for students and staff, but ask that students who require specific sunscreen due to sensitive skin bring sunscreen with them.
We will be in the sun for most of the day and want to minimise the risk of sunburn and heat stroke.

Relaxation Ideas for the Whole Family
As the year speeds toward its end, life can feel more hectic than ever. Balancing school events, holiday preparations, and everyday commitments can leave everyone feeling stretched. Taking time to relax together can help your family feel calmer and more connected. Here are three simple tips to bring a sense of calm into your busy days, with support from Smiling Mind, an Australian not-for-profit that provides mindfulness tools and programs designed to support mental health and well-being for people of all ages.
- Create a Daily Breathing Ritual
Spend just five minutes as a family practicing mindful breathing. A simple exercise like “square breathing” can help everyone slow down:
- Breathe in for a count of 4.
- Hold for 4.
- Breathe out for 4.
- Pause for 4.
This can be done anytime—after school, before meals, or during stressful moments. Smiling Mind’s free app offers guided breathing activities tailored for families.
- Explore Mindfulness in Nature
Head outside for a short family walk or simply sit in the garden and observe the sights and sounds around you. Connecting with nature has been shown to reduce stress and boost well-being. Smiling Mind’s Mindfulness in Nature programprovides fun and simple activities to help your family stay present and connected to the outdoors.
- Practice Gratitude Together
At the end of each day, take turns sharing one thing you’re grateful for. This simple practice shifts focus to the positives, builds resilience, and fosters family connection. Smiling Mind’s Family Mindfulness Toolkit includes easy exercises to incorporate gratitude and mindfulness into your daily routine.
Relaxation Made Simple
Even small moments of calm can help your family navigate this busy time with ease. By trying these tips and exploring Smiling Mind’s resources, you’ll create valuable opportunities for mindfulness and connection
