Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what schools do well and where they may improve.
We would be so grateful if families could complete our online survey about Mowbray Heights Primary School. Your feedback is very important and helps form school planning and decision-making.
The survey is open until Friday 20 September 2024 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Take the online survey by clicking this Link, or pasting it in your browser: https://nam.dcv.ms/qEDFA5rUiJ
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school receive the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will not be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact us if you require any assistance and thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
Sharon
PS Last year we had 76 responses and this year we would love to hit 100! So far we have had only 8 responses!

National Child Protection Week 1-7 September
This week is National Child Protection Week (1-7 September) and the theme for 2024 is Every Conversation Matters. As the Safeguarding Lead at Mowbray, part of my role is to share the message that everybody has a part to play in keeping our children and young people safe. One way to do this is to have conversations with our children and young people. Having regular conversations shows we are interested in them, their interests and their friendships. Conversations can help build trusting relationships. Conversations are a powerful tool to share messages to keep children and young people safe and well. Conversations with a trusted adult can help children and young people to understand and solve issues together or to seek support from qualified support personnel, such as social workers, health practitioners, advice lines or other services.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to make contact.

Term 3 Communicating Learning Progress with Families
At MHPS, families are valued members of the school community and play an important role in their child’s learning. There is a strong culture of mutual trust, and parents/carers and staff work in partnership to support student learning and well-being. This is evidenced by the outstanding attendance data at our previous two communication opportunities, in March we had 95% of our students represented and in June we had 93% of our students represented.
Communicating Learning Progress with Families for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will take place again, commencing Monday 9 September and concluding on Wednesday 18 September. This is our third opportunity to formally communicate about learning this year and once again we are providing two options for communication in Term 3.
Parents/carers can choose either a face-to-face conversation at school or a phone call from your child's teacher.
The conversation will focus on any follow-up matters from the June meeting, evidence of learning, progress and strategies for improvement, and your child’s wellbeing.
Students are not required to be part of this meeting. Childcare will be available for school aged students in the PAC.
A letter was sent home on Monday 19 August, containing the details you need to know, a preference sheet for dates and times, and an agenda where you can record anything you would like to discuss. Please return the preference sheet and agenda to class teachers as soon as possible.
After a six-year break, we are excited to announce that there will be an LSSSA Dance Event this year. Our students in Years 1-2, Years 3-4 and selected Year 5-6 students will be involved in an hour of dancing at the Silverdome with students from other Northern Primary Schools. Students will travel by bus to and from the event.

Prep Excursion - Community Walk
As part of our History and Geography learning, students in Prep Freeman, Prep Fletcher and Prep Lockhart will be walking around the Mowbray community. We will be looking at the different shops and mapping our walk.
This walk will take approximately 45 minutes and will be completed during school time on Wednesday 11 September. Students must be in school uniform and bring a coat in case the weather is cold.

On Thursday 12 September, all Year 5 students will be visiting Newstead College. They will have an opportunity to tour the College and participate in some classes. Students and staff will leave school at 9:00 am and return at 12:20 pm. Your child will need to wear full school uniform, and bring a packed recess and a drink. This experience is an initiative of, and funded by, the Smith Family.
Cindy Wright - Assistant Principal
As part of our learning about First Nations history, culture and language we will be visiting Lagoon Beach and East Beach at Low Head on Tuesday 17 September.
We will leave school at 9:00 am and return by 3:00 pm. Children will need to bring recess, lunch and a drink. There will be no Canteen lunch orders on this day.

Health Education with Nurse Pia
Along with good nutrition and exercise, sleep is now recognised as one of the pillars of good health. It is vital to our health and well-being. We need good sleep so our bodies can heal, stay healthy and fight sickness. A lack of sleep or poor sleep quality can have a major impact on mood, behaviour, concentration, memory and quality of life. The following information applies to all life stages, from children right through to adulthood.
Tips for a good night's sleep.
Have a regular sleep pattern. Try to go to bed and get up the next morning at the same time each day.
Spend the right amount of time sleeping for your age. Different amounts of sleep are needed for different life stages, from babies right through to adults.
Bed is for sleeping, not entertainment. It is best to keep devices like Smartphones, TV and other devices out of the bedroom as they can interfere with sleep.
Have a buffer zone before bed where you start to wind down and relax. Have a shower, listen to relaxing music, read a book.
Avoid big meals before bed. If you are hungry have a small healthy snack or a glass of warm milk.
Make sure your bedroom is comfortable - quiet, dark, comfortable bedding and not to hot or too cold.
Avoid caffeine (which is a stimulant) for a few hours before bedtime as caffeine can keep you awake.
Avoid daytime naps as this can make getting to sleep difficult at night.
Exercise during the day to use up your energy but not within 2 hours before going to bed.
See a doctor if you or a family member have continuing sleep problems.
It is important to remember that improved sleep will not happen as soon as the changes are made, but if they are maintained, sleep will certainly get better.
