Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what schools do well and where they may improve.
We would be so grateful if families could complete our online survey about Mowbray Heights Primary School. Your feedback is very important and helps form school planning and decision-making.
The survey is open until Friday 20 September 2024 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Take the online survey by clicking this Link, or pasting it in your browser: https://nam.dcv.ms/qEDFA5rUiJ
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school receive the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will not be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact us if you require any assistance and thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
Sharon
PS Last year we had 76 responses and this year we would love to hit 100!

Last Wednesday we celebrated Book Week with our annual Dress Up day. Students and staff were invited to come as a favourite book character or come dressed as a MHPS reader. Enjoy the photos!
As part of our school-wide Book Week celebrations, we held a Colouring Competition. With over 320 entries across the school it was a hard decision to choose our winners. We were very fortunate to be sponsored by Petrarch's Book Shop, Mrs Sharon Booth and the School Association in order to award some lovely books as prizes. Congratulations to:

The SRC fundraiser for this term is the wacky and wonderful Crazy Hair Day. We are supporting the Leukemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave. Every child is invited to come along to school with their crazy hair – think style, think colour, think bling, think anything other than your normal hair! Remember to bring along a gold coin – or any coins – for our fundraiser.
On Crazy Hair Day we have a student from 5/6 Alessio who will be having his hair cut, to raise even more money for the Leukemia Foundation. Mason Aird will be having his below shoulder length hair chopped into a much shorter style! He has a fundraising page and we are looking forward to supporting him.
After a six-year break, we are excited to announce that there will be an LSSSA Dance Event this year. Our students in Years 1-2, Years 3-4 and selected Year 5-6 students will be involved in an hour of dancing at the Silverdome with students from other Northern Primary Schools. Students will travel by bus to and from the event.

Term 3 Communicating Learning Progress with Families
At MHPS, families are valued members of the school community and play an important role in their child’s learning. There is a strong culture of mutual trust, and parents/carers and staff work in partnership to support student learning and well-being. This is evidenced by the outstanding attendance data at our previous two communication opportunities, in March we had 95% of our students represented and in June we had 93% of our students represented.
Communicating Learning Progress with Families for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will take place again, in September. This is our third opportunity to formally communicate about learning this year and once again we are providing two options for communication in Term 3.
Parents/carers can choose either a face-to-face conversation at school or a phone call from your child's teacher.
The conversation will focus on any follow-up matters from the June meeting, evidence of learning, progress and strategies for improvement, and your child’s wellbeing.
Students are not required to be part of this meeting. Childcare will be available for school aged students in the PAC.
A letter was sent home on Monday 19 August, containing the details you need to know, a preference sheet for dates and times, and an agenda where you can record anything you would like to discuss. Please return the preference sheet and agenda to class teachers as soon as possible.
Safeguarding Leads have been appointed in all state government schools to help ensure all children and young people in Tasmania are known, safe, well and learning. Safeguarding Leads also have a responsibility to share information with their school community because regardless of your background, where you live or work, we all have a role to help keep children and young people safe.
Strong Families Safe Kids is an advice and referral line. It is the first point of contact for child wellbeing and safety. Anybody can use this service, parents, relatives, friends, neighbours and children. The person who answers your call will talk with you about the situation, answer questions you may have and offer information or advice. You can call 1800 000 123 or you can explore this site https://strongfamiliessafekids.tas.gov.au/ for more information.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to make contact.

2024 Student Assistance Scheme (STAS)
STAS closes to new applications in the first week of September. New applications for 2024 will not be accepted after this time and further assessments will not be made for this school year.
Parents and guardians who are approved for STAS 2024 will have their files automatically re-assessed for the 2025 school year. Letters will be sent to families confirming STAS approval or otherwise at the end of the 2024 calendar year in preparation for 2025.
STAS applications for children enrolling in Kindergarten for 2025 cannot be accepted until the beginning of the new school year. Parents and guardians of students, other than students in Kindergarten, who have not applied for STAS previously can apply online from December at stasonlinesubmission.education.tas.gov.au (or Google STAS to be taken directly to the online application service).
Once approval letters for STAS 2025 have been delivered, if a parent or guardian wishes to add a newly enrolling student to their existing 2025 file they will need to email their details and the student’s full name, date of birth and grade in 2025 to stas@decyp.tas.gov.au. The additional student will be added to their existing file. Additional students cannot be added to an existing STAS file using the online application service.
For queries, please contact stas@decyp.tas.gov.au
