Throughout the year it is important that we continually remind ourselves of our school values - Respect, Responsbility, Courage, Connection and Growth. Our values are central to everything we do. They reflect what we stand for, support our decision making and guide us in how we work together as a school community.
This term our students are turning their focus to the value Responsibility. Our students will be learning about the meaning of responsibility and how responsibility can be demonstrated in their everyday lives.
Our staff have recently worked together to unpack what the values mean to us, and to prioritise the values-based behaviours we expect from ourselves and each other as we work together at MHPS. In relation to the value Responsibility we have committed to:
- Showing up, following through and being accountable
- Demonstrating leadership and integrity
- Owning our energy, emotions and actions, and understanding their impact on others
Responsibility - Being responsible means stepping up and doing what is right.

Launching into Learning - Term 3
Thank you to all our families for attending our sessions so far this year.
Please note we have a new playgroup starting on Monday afternoon at 1:45 pm and Playgroup on Tuesday at 10:30 am will now be an additional Pre-Kinder session.
This term we are very excited to start work on our Kindergarten outdoor space, which will mean we do not have access to the playground in Term 3. To keep group sizes manageable, the Playgroup on Thursday at 9:00 am will now be for toddlers who are 2-3 years old and their siblings.
The times and sessions for Term 3 are attached. Please ask our staff if you have any questions.

A firefighter from the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) is visiting our school to present a Home Fire Safety Program to the Year 3-4 classes and the Year 5-6 classes in Week 2 of Term 3 (29 July - 2 August). 3-4 Rafferty and our Early Childhood classes participated in the program earlier this term.
The age appropriate program is designed to raise fire awareness in children and includes fun in class activities, videos, activity books, website www.tfseducation.com.au and giveaways. Parents and other family members are also encouraged to participate by reading the information and assisting your child with the after school activities. The TFS aims to deliver appropriate fire safety education to every primary school child in Tasmania and is part of the TFS’s ongoing commitment to create a fire safe Tasmania.
Key Fire Safety Messages include,
Wake up - Install a smoke alarm in every bedroom
Plan and practice a home fire escape plan with the whole family
In a fire crawl low and go, go, go to the nearest exit
In an emergency call triple zero
Keep flammable material at least two metres from the heater
If your clothes catch fire, stop, drop, rock and roll
Keep matches and lighters away from children
Cooking - Turn it off before you turn away
Cool a burn under cool water for at least 20 minutes
Most house fires can be avoided. Make your home fire safe
